Membership

The Missouri Assisted Living Association (MALA) is the only professional organization in Missouri solely dedicated to representing assisted living and residential care facilities. Membership in a professional trade association, like MALA, is necessary to stay current of the latest changes and trends affecting your industry.  It is extremely important in today’s world that every industry has an advocate that promotes the interests and goals of their members, as well as an association that serves as a watchdog for initiatives that conflict with the mission and goals of its members.  MALA is the one.

MALA’s membership is comprised of assisted living facilities and residential care facilities ranging in size from a few residents to hundreds of residents; as well as companies and individuals that supply and support the industry.  As a membership association, MALA is here to serve you and design programs and services around your wants and needs.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Missouri Assisted Living Association is to provide industry leadership that promotes the highest standards of assisted living and residential care for Missouri consumers through quality education and the advocacy of favorable legislation and regulations.

MALA offers two categories of membership. For providers, we offer Facilty Memberships and for suppliers of the industry we offer Associate Memberships. These categories are detailed below:

Facility Membership Benefits

National Affiliation
MALA is a state affiliate of the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA). ALFA is the largest national association representing assisted living. Through our affiliation with ALFA we are able to provide facility members the comprehensive representation, information, and benefits needed on local, state, and national levels.

Legislative & Regulatory Representation
MALA provides comprehensive legislative and regulatory representation before the Missouri Legislature and the state agencies that regulate the AL/RC industry.  Governmental Consultant Jorgen Schlemeier, Gamble & Schlemeier, has strongly and effectively represented MALA and its members for over fifteen years.

MALA is routinely involved with a variety of state regulatory agencies on your behalf, including the Department of Health & Senior Services and the Department of Mental Health.  MALA is very involved with the Departments when regulation revisions are considered.

Industry News & Updates
MALA members receive legislative and industry updates on a regular basis through special email bulletins and a quarterly publication (Caring). The cost of these updates is included in your membership.

MALA also hosts statewide Town Hall Meetings throughout the year.  Providers are invited to learn the latest legislative and regulatory information, program changes and interact with other providers.  There is no fee for MALA members to participate.

Professional Development
MALA is committed to providing high quality educational and professional development to our members.  From Town Hall Meetings to regional seminars to statewide conferences, our members are educated on important topics by some of the foremost experts in the industry.  The educational needs of our members largely determine the training agendas for seminars and conferences.

Staff Certification

MALA Committees
MALA committees and task forces serve as forums for interested members to fulfill and enhance the mission of the association. Your participation is welcomed on committees such as Education, Finance, Legislative, Membership and DMH Task Force, just to name a few.  The only requirement to serve on a committee is an active MALA membership status.  Service on a committee is a great way to become involved in the promotion of MALA and the AL/RC industry. If you are interested, please contact the MALA office for further information.

MALA Website
MALA members are listed on our website www.malarcf.org at no charge, along with a link to your facility’s webpage.  As a member, you have access to the “Member’s Only” section of our website which contains the latest legislative information, resource library, member facility listing, Associate members’ service/product directory, and other exclusive member offers and opportunities. You also receive special pricing and offers on all website advertising opportunities.

Caring – MALA’s Official Newsletter
Caring features timely articles, industry and legislative updates, and information on industry products and services.  This newsletter also has an Associate Members’ Spotlight section which announces new Associate Members and details their products or services, as well as any special announcements.  Caring is published quarterly and is available exclusively to MALA members.

MALA Staff Support
Our staff is dedicated to serving you.  Questions concerning licensing, surveys, and the laws governing AL/RC can leave you wondering who to turn to for answers. Your MALA membership allows you quick access to appropriate state staff that can assist you with any questions.  If our staff does not have the answer to your question, be assured that they can provide appropriate direction.
