Considerations Regarding the Needs of LTC Residents for Intimate Relationships Julie Ballard, Ombudsman, is an Assistant Missouri State Long-Term Care Ombudsman and has been in this position since 2002. Prior to this she worked as a state surveyor of long-term care facilities. Julie is an RN and has a BSN from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. Julie has been involved in Missouri’s culture change coalition, Missouri Coalition Celebrating Care Continuum Change (MC5), since its beginning in 2004, and is the past President of MC5. Don Reynolds J.D. is Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the University Of Missouri School Of Medicine where his primary responsibility is as Director of the Office for Responsible Research. For more than 20 years prior to joining the Center for Health Ethics, he was a member and principal of the Center for Practical Bioethics (Kansas City) where he established the Office of Long-term Care Ethics, Policy and Research. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and policy guidance documents on a range of health, healthcare and research ethics topics. Don received his law degree from the University of Missouri in 1969. Session Description: This session will provide practical guidance for LTC facilities regarding residents’ needs for intimate relationships and sexual activity.
