Class Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm

Participants must receive approval in order to attend this workshop. Those wishing to attend must submit to MALA the following at least two weeks prior to the workshop date:
  • a completed application form
  • detailed resume
  • copy of nursing license
  • copy of Social Security card
  • workshop fee

Upon MALA's preliminary approval, DHSS will have final approval. You will be notified in writing by both MALA and DHSS if your application was approved or denied.

INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS:

Level I Medication Aide (LIMA) Training Program: Department of Health & Senior Services regulations state the following (19 CSR 30-84.030(10)):

  • Currently licensed RN or LPN* with the State of Missouri, and
  • Shall have had 1 years experience within the past 5 years in a long term care facility, or
  • Shall be currently employed in a long term care facility and shall have been employed in that facility for at least 6 months, or
  • Shall be an instructor in a health occupations education program
  • *LPNs must also meet the following requirements:

    • Shall not be waivered
    • Shall be a graduate of an accredited practical nursing program which has pharmacology in the curriculum.

Insulin Administration (IA) Training Program: Department of Health & Senior Services regulations state the following (19 CSR 30-84.040(7)):

  • Only a Registered Nurse who is an approved instructor for the Level I Medication Aide Program, instructor/examiner for the Certified Nurse Assistant Program or instructor for the Certified Medication Technician Program shall be considered qualified to teach the Insulin Administration Course.

  • RNs approved to attend the LIMA Instructor course are automatically qualified to attend the IA Instructor course. The IA Instructor course lasts approximately 30 minutes and is held immediately upon conclusion of the LIMA Instructor course.

Required Course Materials (per state regulations):
Level I Medication Aide Instructor manual (Item #51-6064-I, 1993 edition) is necessary for the class. The approximate cost is $44.74 (includes shipping/handling and sales tax).

Insulin Administration Instructor manual (Item #50-6080-I, 2001 edition) is only required of RNs participating in the Insulin portion of the workshop. The approximate cost is $18.58 (includes shipping/handling and sales tax).

The above manuals must be ordered from the Instructional Materials Laboratory in Columbia, MO.

Registration Fee (includes handouts and lunch):
LPN - $95
RN - $105

Refund Policy: You may cancel your registration up to 1 week prior to the workshop and receive a full refund or credit. If you cancel less than 1 week prior, you may send a substitute or transfer your registration to the next LIMA Train the Trainer workshop or one within 6 months. NOTICE: Refunds or credits will not be made if registrant fails to attend without prior notification.
